Fitscher Aluminum Bronze (FAB)

Fitscher Aluminum bronze is a type of bronze alloy where aluminum is the main added metal, rather than tin which is used in traditional bronze. It’s known for being strong, durable, and resistant to corrosion.

Applications:

Fitscher Aluminum bronze is used in various industries due to its desirable properties:

  • Marine: Propellers, pumps, valves, and other hardware exposed to seawater.
  • Aerospace: Landing gear components, bushings, and bearings.
  • Oil & Gas: Non-sparking tools and equipment.
  • Manufacturing: Gears, bearings, bushings, and other wear-resistant parts.
  • Construction: Architectural hardware and fasteners.

Properties:

Its unique properties make it a valuable material in a wide range of demanding applications.

  • High Strength: Offers strength comparable to some steels.
  • Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Forms a protective layer of aluminum oxide that resists corrosion, even in seawater.
  • Wear Resistance: Highly resistant to wear and abrasion.
  • Non-Sparking: Doesn’t produce sparks when struck, making it suitable for hazardous environments.
  • Good Machinability: Can be shaped and machined effectively.

Fitscher Tin Bronze (FTB)

Fitscher Tin Bronze is a classic type of bronze alloy where tin is the primary added metal to copper. It’s one of the oldest and most widely used bronze alloys, known for its good balance of strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance.

Applications:

Fitscher Tin Bronze has a wide range of uses across various industries:

  • Bearings and Bushings: Due to its wear resistance and low friction.
  • Gears: Especially high-tin bronzes for heavy-duty applications.
  • Pump Components: Impellers, housings, and other parts.
  • Valves and Fittings: For fluid control.
  • Marine Hardware: Components exposed to freshwater or saltwater.

Properties:

Its combination of strength, ductility, corrosion resistance, and castability makes it a valuable material in numerous applications.

  • Good Strength: Offers moderate to high strength, depending on the specific tin content.
  • Good Ductility: Can be shaped and formed relatively easily.
  • Good Corrosion Resistance: Resists corrosion in many environments, though not as effectively as some other bronze alloys.
  • Wear Resistance: Offers decent resistance to wear and abrasion.
  • Good Castability: Can be easily cast into complex shapes.

Fitscher Special Bronze (FSB)

Fitscher Special Bronze is a specific type of bronze alloy characterized by its significant lead content, in addition to the traditional copper and tin.

Applications:

Fitscher Special Bronze is primarily used in applications where its machinability, wear resistance, and conformability are crucial:

  • Bearings and Bushings: Especially in applications with high loads, slow speeds, and potential for marginal lubrication.
  • Washers: Where conformability and wear resistance are important.
  • Non-pressure parts: Due to its lower strength, it’s not suitable for high-pressure applications.

Properties:

Fitscher Special Bronze is a specialized alloy designed for applications where machinability, wear resistance, and conformability are paramount.

  • Excellent Machinability: The high lead content significantly improves machinability, making it easier to shape and cut.
  • Good Wear Resistance: Offers good resistance to wear and abrasion, especially in applications with marginal lubrication.
  • Conformability: Can conform to the shape of a mating surface, which is beneficial in bearing applications.
  • Embeddability: Can embed foreign particles, protecting the mating surface from damage.
  • Lower Strength: Compared to other bronze alloys, fitscher special bronze generally has lower strength.

Fitscher Red Bronze (FRB)

Applications:

Fitscher Red Bronze is used in a variety of applications, including:

  • Plumbing Fixtures: Faucets, valves, fittings, etc.
  • Hardware: Decorative hardware, fasteners.
  • Heat Exchangers: Due to its good thermal conductivity.
  • Electrical Components: Connectors, terminals.
  • Marine Hardware: Components exposed to freshwater or saltwater.

Properties:

  • Reddish Color: The high copper content gives it a characteristic reddish hue.
  • Good Corrosion Resistance: Resists corrosion in many environments.
  • Good Strength and Ductility: Offers a good balance of strength and flexibility.
  • Good Machinability: Can be easily shaped and machined.
  • Good Thermal and Electrical Conductivity: Conducts heat and electricity well.

Differences vs Other Copper Alloys:

  • Fitscher Red Bronze vs. Brass: Fitscher Red Bronze typically has a higher copper content and lower zinc content than yellow brass.
  • Fitscher Red Bronze vs. Bronze: Traditional bronze has tin as the primary alloying element, while fitscher red bronze primarily uses zinc.
